TOUGH CHALLENGE There’s a woman who lives in the mountains of Kagera, Northern Tanzania. The nearest town is Bukoba, which is a thousand miles from anywhere you know. She travels from one tin roofed hut to the next liberating other women from their cultural prisons. She walks barefoot but wears a scarlet dress. She’s a producer, a producer of coffee that is, and the first woman to sit on a cooperative board. Her neighbours are Uganda and The Congo. Despite the fact she has nothing and lives in the middle of nowhere she’s organising her people, creating a can-do buzz and delivering real change. Are you feeling inspired?

Host Universal is planning a trilogy of three feature-length films set in remote parts of the world and each one impacting poverty in a radically new way. The narrative of each film focuses on heroes and heroines who live in middle of nowhere, people who, through character, energy and resolve fight to change it. Plotted from the real economic, social and statistical evidence of today, each film depicts the future, 10, 20, 30 years hence – either tragic or transformed. A future that you can either live with, or help change.

The Trilogy is designed to go beyond cinematic drama and experience, reaching through time to actually change the future in real life. They will generate investment in artisan and grower communities across Asia, Africa & Latin America and touch the lives of billions of people, building dynamic new relationships, opportunities and infrastructure, and dismantling the mental trade barriers that divide us all. The sets that are built will be permanent, the opportunities they create will be supported beyond the production, the relationship between the characters and the audience will continue beyond the life of a normal film.

The films in the Trilogy may be high-action thrillers, gritty cinéma-vérité, optimistic romances or dystopian tragedies. They will delve into the murky underworlds of drugs, slavery and terrorism. They will roam the mountains and stalk the corridors of power. Trilogy ONE: if you have an interest or a passion for change, now’s the time to invest your energy, talent or money in the development of these films. You can eat, drink and wear The Trilogy if you have the appetite. In ten year’s time today’s grim reality will either be a lot worse, or changed for the better, by you.
